Understanding LEED? for Sustainable Building

Understanding LEED? for Sustainable Building

This teleconference will help you better understand the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program, as it was significantly revised in 2009. The comprehensive introductory materials will prepare you for additional training to receive your LEED« credential as an accredited professional or LEED« AP. In January 2009, the U.S. Green Building Council installed the third-generation version of its well known green building performance rating and certification system, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It is the first major rework of LEED« since 2005 and represents a major upgrade and harmonization of technical criteria. This latest LEED« system results from more than four years of technical research, reviews of many actual LEED« certified projects and advisory activities of hundreds of technical experts. The 2009 revisions are comprehensive and may reduce building environmental impacts by 10 percent on LEED« certified projects. Improvements focused mainly on further reductions in energy waste and enhanced water conservation. USGBC has now focused rating and certification efforts using this latest unified version and rapidly will move away from the multiple-criteria products of the past. Use of older LEED« versions is no longer permitted (c. June 2009). The information in this teleconference is important to anyone involved with major green building projects This teleconference is based on publicly available information concerning the LEED« rating and certification system, and is not specifically endorsed or approved by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED is a registered trademark of U.S. Green Building Council and this event is not sponsored by or affiliated with U.S. Green Building Council. Learning Objectives ̣ You will be able to explain the role of green building criteria in sustainable design. ̣ You will be able to identify and classify primary building types covered under 2009 LEED« revisions. ̣ You will be able to discuss why USGBC has updated the LEED« program. ̣ You will be able to review the LEED« credit point scale and how it works.
